PrimoCache breaks Windows Resource Monitor

Post by konste »

One reason which prevents me from using PrimoCache on all my machines is that unfortunately when it is installed and running Windows Resource Monitor does not show any disk activity like in the picture

I wonder if something can be done to keep using PrimoCache and let Resource Monitor work or if there is another tool I could replace Resource Monitor with which would keep working in PrimoCache presence?

Thank you!

The problem is not inherently tied to PrimoCache. Take a look at the Disk tab. This is a shot of my Resource Monitor on Windows Home 10 and L1/L2 cache for disk C:

When Defer-Write is enabled, writes from Windows/applications are completed in PrimoCache and don't go to disks. When PrimoCache flushes cache data to disks, it runs at system kernel level, so only the "System" process activities are seen in the resource monitor.
