PrimoCache make the system freeze...

Post by idefix44 »

OS: Windows XP32.
PrimoCache: 1.0.1 Registered version.
PrimoCache target: System and applications partition (50 GB).
PrimoCache L2Storage: 20 GB.

After scheduled backups and antivirus scans, wich needs intensive read datas operations, PrimoCache freeze the system when it's his turn to read the datas/blocks on the target partition and write on L2 Storage...

My L2Storage is a SSD.

Hi idefix44,

Thanks for your feedback! May I know the names of your backup software and antivirus software?

About the L2Cache pollution by Norton Ghost 10.0 and AVG antivirus 2014 free edition.
I'll Try to bypass it using the PrimoCache CLI.

First of all, my PC run 24/7.

Norton Ghost 10.0:
1- Incremential backup each day, 02:30 AM.
2- Complete backup each Sunday, 02:30 AM.

AVG antivirus 2014 free edition:
1- Full scan each Thursday 04:00 AM.

I need your advice to specifie the minimum frequency value (PrimoCache New Command, -f parameter).
Saying that Frequency = Event / Delay and that Event is the reading of a block.
If Delay = 24 hours (1 day) then -f 2 can be, I think, a good value because the unused blocks are read at least one time on Sunday.
If Delay = 168 hours (1 week) then -f 3 can be, I think, a good value because the unused blocks are read at least two times, on Sunday and Thursday.

Thanks for your help.

I'm sorry that "-f " option may not be appropriate for your case. Here, "Frequency" does not consider the Delay. It just counts the number of Events of reading a block. For eg, set "-f 2", then if a block was read twice, this block is allowed to be written into L2 cache storage.
