Primocache drive limit?

Post by klepp0906 »

I'm preparing to set up drivepool with my supermicro 846 chassis. It was suggested that I use primocache and everything looked good so I purchased a license.

I didnt seem to notice that it can only cache 16 drives. This is a problem, this leaves me unable to cache 30% of my pool as primocache does not appear to use drivepool, just the underlying drives.

Do i have a fix or is primocache now a whole lot less useful? Can i upgrade to pro and have this limit increased or?

I'm sorry for the late reply. PrimoCache is based on logical volumes. Each cache task can cache up to 16 volumes. If a volume is consisted of multiple drives, PrimoCache only counts it as one. When you choose this volume in the wizard, you may just tick one item, no need to tick all same items under different drives.

Hi, no problem about the late reply.
I do realize its based on volumes, however I have about 26 at current. (into my 2nd storage chassis). Are you saying that each cache task can have 16? So i chould simply make multiple cache tasks and address a number greater than 16 then?

Yes, you can create multiple cache tasks. Volumes within a cache task share the cache space.
