L2 chache with Vera Crypt, is it safe?

Post by ccarderr »

Hi.
From what I know, PrimoChache works on driver level, and Vera Crypt works in similar way when system drive (whole drive, not partition) is encrypted (not sure if it's a driver).

Now is my question.
With config below, PrimoCache will save encrypted or decrypted chunks from HDD in L2 cache?

Config I want to test:
SSD 128GB (L2 cache, not encrypted)
HDD 1TB (System, games, fully encrypted with Vera Crypt)

I know that i can encrypt SSD, but:
- If I encrypt SSD, and PrimoCache stores encrypted chunks from HDD, PC will have to decrypt data twice when loading something from L2, that would degrade performance.
- If I leave SSD unencrypted, and PrimoCache saves decrypted chunks, that would lead to data leaks.

That's why I want to know for sure, if I need to encrypt SSD.
I'm not sure, if PrimoCache can detect second encrypted drive. Also don't know, if Vera Crypt "System Favorites" are mounted before or after PrimoCache driver, if second, then would be problematic. :/

P.S. Sorry, if my english is bad. :)

I would assume it will store decrypted files as it stores what it sees.
This is why I keep asking for disk level caching: https://www.romexsoftware.com/bbs2/en-u ... =33&t=4425

With this, it would cache what is on the disk, which is encrypted at all times which would be recommended, safe and superiour to all other products from Primocaches competitors.

You also need to check if Primocache does even see the volume. In my case it does not even show up.
