Re: PrimoCache Settings

Hover the mouse over the Block Size field and you should see a popup with a description. The most optimal block size is considered to be one matching the disk cluster size (usually 4kB) but it involves big memory overhead and increases the load of the CPU so you may try bigger block size values. You...

Re: Primocache Prefetching from HDD and not SSD?

Another possible explanation that comes to mind is that the data formats used for L1 and L2 cache may be substantially different and sharing the same cache space may be rather complex. Also saving L1 would also affect the management of the L2 cache size as an L1 cache may be bigger than the target L...

Re: PrimoCashe level-2 cashe is not active on my Windows partition

You should never be able to create an L2 cache for an SSD drive. Normally it is blocked by PrimoCache. Simply because reading native data from an SSD performs faster than reading it from a cache so an L2 cache would be useless here. You may still set an L2 partition on an SSD to provide caching for ...

Thanks.
Does it mean that a L1 cache for a 4Kn drive with v3.0.2 is buggy too?

Re: Regression on v4.0.1 compared to v3.2.0 for "wrong 4Kn HDD detection"

It was mentioned in the initial announcement that the drives 4Kn are not supported in release 4.0.1. The support is expected to come in a future version. From my experience, you can set L1 cache for a 4Kn drive with PC 3.2.0 but you cannot use such a drive for L2 cache for any released version of PC...

Re: M.2 NVME on Haswell L2 Cache possible?

I am currently using a NVME SSD disk in an external enclosure connected through USB 3.0 for L2 cache and the perception of Windows boot is on pair with native booting from a SSD. Just make sure that the size of the logical sector of your NVME drive is 512 bytes as it seems that PrimoCache in either ...

Re: [2020-12-31] PrimoCache 4.0.1 released!

Your logical sector size is 512 bytes so it is compatible with PrimoCache 4.0.1. And with some simplification blocks and clusters create groups of sectors used by the file system. Probably you should consider creating a smaller L2 cache than about 477 GB. Such a big cache with small block size consu...

Re: [2020-12-31] PrimoCache 4.0.1 released!

How do i know if my storage spaces are 4Kn? As an administrator try a command like: C:\Windows\System32>fsutil fsinfo sectorInfo C: LogicalBytesPerSector : 4096 PhysicalBytesPerSectorForAtomicity : 4096 PhysicalBytesPerSectorForPerformance : 4096 FileSystemEffectivePhysicalBytesPerSectorForAtomicit...

Re: Serious problem with Windows Server 2012 R2

Make sure you are caching the right disk. You can set the cache for several disks at once. The cache size limit is a bit surprising. If there is no bursty activity (it happens with servers) the issue may be related to Windows Server 2012 which is rather uncommon now.

Re: Dual Boot Disaster

Your problem description is rather complex but I guess you want two cached partitions Win7 and Win10 being able to access each other along with their associated caches. Most likely this functionality is not implemented and may be subject to various conflicts. I guess the driver of PrimoCache has ful...
