FancyCache and MetaSAN?

Post by Axel Mertes »

Hi,

I would like to know if anybody tried FancyCache on MetaSAN volumens?
MetaSAN is a SAN file level sharing software. Each system sees the shared fibre channel drives as a local drive and control over MFT is done via a MetaData controller (MDC, one computer connected to the FC SAN as well).

The point is that all machines see this FC SAN as local drives.
The potential issue is that underlying block data might be changed by a third party machine also connected via FC SAN. The MDC is clearly aware of this, but will a connected client with FancyCache understand that as well?
How does it know that the cached block has been overwritten in the meantime?

As we currently have no support for network shared files, using a shared SAN drive (which the OS sees as a local connected block storage, just the MFT management is centralized on one machine to prevent corruption) might be an alternative that might already work.

Any thoughts?
Axel
