VDF files on an SSD drive - use Quick Save Mode?

Post by kalua »

I have converted to an SSD for my boot drive, and I run XP SP3 with my user profile stored on a persistent ramdisk that is saved to a VDF file. The VFD file is on a conventional disk, not the SSD. This works perfectly.

I am ready to get rid of the conventional spinning disk, and go all SSD, but I want to avoid excessive writes, to extend the lifetime of the SSD.

If I upgrade to the professional edition, and use Quick Save Mode, will that significantly reduce the writes to the VDF? Is Quick Save Mode based on the files modified, or the blocks of the ramdisk image that changed?

Hi,

Yes, Quick Save mode will significantly reduce the writes to the VDF image file. It is based on the blocks of the ramdisk image that changed.
