1 or 2 cache tasks?

Post by ghall »

Hello, Can someone please advise? I'm running PrimoCache 4.3.0.

Drive C: (Windows partition) is on a 500GB M.2 NVMe SSD.
Drive D: (DATA) is on a WD 4TB HDD.
PrimoCache L2 cache volume is on a Samsung 500GB SSD.

PrimoCache is configured with a "single" cache task that caches both C: and D: volumes. C: volume is configured to use "only" L1 caching (100% Write) and D: is configured to use "only" L2 caching (shared R/W). Defer-Write is enabled.

Question: Is using a single cache task in this way for both volumes the best way to do this? Or would it be better to use 2 cache tasks -- one for each volume?

Thanks.

Since C: and D: use different caches, it is better to create two separate cache tasks here. Thus, you can set different cache blocks.

PS. I see that you only use L2 for defer-writ. Please note that the risk of L2 write caching with defer-write is same as L1. For more details about Defer-Write, please see https://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/pri ... write.html

Thank you. Good point on the added flexibility to use different block sizes.
By the way, I DO use defer-write on both volumes. 600s and intelligent write mode. UPS to mitigate risk.
