Specs:
- Intel Core i5-5200U, 2700 MHz
- 6 GB (DDR3 SDRAM)
- 500GB HDD (5400 RPM)
- 240GB SSD (external, using USB 3.0)
Background:
Recently I've bought an external SSD to move some of my games there. It reduced loading times and in-game stuttering by A LOT. Previously, it was caused by my slow HDD and the game using pagefile because of low RAM (lead to stuttering in-game). Then I've installed PrimoCache to boost my perfomance further.
Used settings in PrimoCache:
I have a created a separate partition (40GB) on my external SSD for the L2-cache. I also created a new cache task for my system disk on HDD, in hopes it will help with the pagefile speed. It was said on forums that PrimoCache now also caches the pagefile, so I thought to give it a try.
Settings (images)
Not sure if that matters, but the block size in the task is set to 16KB, while my system disk cluster size is 4KB.
The Issue:
While Windows indeed started to behave way smoother than before, games started to receive constant stuttering (the ones on a separate partition of my SSD). The loading speed was great, though. Could it be that the stuttering was caused by two separate partitions being used simultaneously (R/W for the game & R/W for the cache)? Are the settings used above ok? And I'm not sure if the system still uses pagefile on HDD instead of the cached one on the SSD.
I cannot upgrade my laptop technically at the moment, so I am looking forward to buy a new one alongside PrimoCache license. I apologize for the long post and would appreciate your support!
