Tip to avoid saving image

Post by jer1956 »

If you havn't got the more expensive versions it's a pain waiting for the full image to save when shutting down the PC when only a few files have changed. If those changes are just the save files in a game then this can be avoided. If the ramdisk is NTFS then you can set up a junction link between the save directory on the ram disk and a nominated directory on a hard drive, such as "My Saves" in "My Documents". Providing your game doesnt periodically do an autosave, the junction link access to the hard drive will only be used when you force a save. Once the Junction Link is created you save the image manually for the last time. There is no need to autosave on shut down from then on. On boot up the image will still have the junction link and the game will link to the saves on the hard drive automatically. Google for Junction Link Magic for a tool to set this up.

Hi jer1956,

Thanks for the tip regarding the junction link. I never knew such a function
even existed. I been playing around with it from a RAMDisk and it works great
so far. I don't actually have any real use for it right now, but I'm happy
to have yet another interesting tool.

You may be interested in the command line program, "junction.exe", at

I also recommend a "Task Manager" replacement called "Process Explorer" at

Thanks again...
