How Much Cache for a 500gb ssd?

Post by ChicoSantiago »

How much Cache would be needed for a 500gb ssd? Right now I'm using a flash drive (120gb) and I have 100gb allocated to L2 cache. It's lighting fast but I would like to reduce the gb used from my flash drive so that I could possibly add another hard drive (2tb sata) to the list. Also, which is faster for cache - a ssd or flash drive?

I'm sorry I don't understand your questions well. Do you mean that you use a 120GB flash drive as level-2 cache for the 500GB SSD? And you also want to use this flash drive for caching a 2TB HDD?

It's up to the real usage scenario to say how much cache is needed. Generally bigger cache size, better performance. You may run computers for several days and then check how much L2 free space left. Then you know the cache size needed for normal usage.

You may also just use one same L2 cache for multiple drives, so you don't need to think about how much cache needed for one drive and how much for another drive.

Depends on their native access speed.
