PrimoCache Service was introduced for assiting level-2 cache. Now we changed the design and the service is no longer needed.

Just wanted to say, longtime user and just upgraded to 2.0, fantastic job. 2.0 gave me a bit of a performance boost. Before using 1.x version of your software, I was using XtremSF by EMC, one of the biggest storage companies in the world who charged a boatload for caching software and EMC's software was horrible. Then I found the primocache 1.x software and it just worked amazingly better with more configurable features. And 2.0 is even better than that, so just wanted to say keep up the good work.

Thanks,
~Bryan

Hi

Bad news from here.
I *feel* the overall performance of my PC dropped a lot with new PrimoCache 2.0.0.
Look like I'm using my mother's crap old notebook. How can I reverse and use old PrimoCache 1.1 ?
I'm registered user.

I use it with Eclipse for Java/C++ Development - large projects.

my PC:
Intel I5-3470 - 16GB ram -
Primo cache settings:
Defer Write 20s
Cache L1 - 2GB - 16kb block size
Cache L2 - SSD Sandisk 30GB

Hum - that has not been my personal experience. You might want to experiment with the different defer write alogorythms. I found 'average' was a better fit for my usage pattern; 'native' is the default which supposedly mirrors the v1.1 methodology. Obvious this won't help much with read performance if that's the bottle neck.

@AlexByrth, I don't think PrimoCache 2.0 will drop a lot of performance with its default settings, because code related to performance part wasn't changed too much. If you feel read performance becomes worse, you may check L2 storage to see if previous L2 cache content was cleared and PrimoCache is gathering cache data into L2 storage. If you feel write performance is not good, well, as Davey126 said, "Native" mode (default value) acts completely same as v1.0.

Anyway, you may get the v1.0.1 from the following link.

Hi,

I used PrimoCache 1.0.1 to test out on a couple of my systems and I ran into some bugs which caused crashes and disk corruption. I would like to try out PrimoCache 2 and see if it suffers the same problems.

Since my trial of PrimoCache has expired and I chose not to buy it at the time, can I install PrimoCache 2 over it or do I need to uninstall it for a new trial period or something? What is the best course of action?

Thanks

You can just install v2.0 over the previous version and it allows free trial for 60 days.

Is the cache supposed to be persistent across system power on / power off cycles in this release? My system has been starting up slower and by the time all disk activity has settled down it shows my cache (5GB) fully populated and picking off from the usage statistics prior to shutdown. I would like to disable this behavior for my application.

The prefetch option is disabled by default. You can confirm current status by clicking on the target (presumably system) disk in the PrimoCache monitor and see if 'Prefetch Last Cache' is selected. PrimoCache loads early in the boot process and captures most subsequent activity (typically reads) that take place during boot. I often find the cache is fully populated by the time the monitor starts. As my config is L1 it makes no sense to disable this behavior.
