Boot performance not increasing

Post by kelv1n »

Hi Guys

Wondering if anybody can help - Basically I have 1TB HDDs in RAID0, along with these I have a 100GB SSD which I want to use for caching.

I've installed PrimoCache for testing, looking at the graph it says I get 90-99% cache hit rate on boot, yet I don't really feel its working, the Hard Drives still click and whir away (Even after several reboots), Where I would expect it to be quiet as the boot content should be cached on the SSD. Additionally it seems to take just as long to boot up.

I've tried the same configuration with VeloSSD, which works amazingly well, it boots in a couple of seconds and then is no clicking or Whiring. Unfortunately the software unreliable and after a period it keeps destroying my Windows installation (It starts booting, these freezes or bluescreens).

I would have expected the 2 to perform very similarly. Can anybody shed some light on this? I'm using a pretty simply configuration (for testing)

Read Data Only
32GB of Level2 on the SSD
3GB of RAM for Level 1

Thanks
