Feature Suggestion: Prefetch/"Add to RAM" button

What it could look like: Specifying a directory to add to cache through FancyCache GUI, or right clicking a folder in Explorer giving the option to add to cache.

How it could be helpful: This would be useful for gamers with lots of RAM. One could just start dump-prefetching the entire game directory into cache, take a piss and start the game, seamlessly bypassing the slow HDD reads/writes during CPU-intensive game load/server connect. I know the whole point of FancyCache is to implement an adaptive cache for Windows, but adding in a persistent cache could prove to be popular.

How it could be done: Some Windows equivalent of

Code: Select all

cp -R /home/snooki/Games/CounterStrike > /dev/null

I really support this, this way fancycache becomes hybrid of traditional RamDisk stuff and this caching.
It's usually a pain to manage all your RamDisks.

Greetings,
Melvin.

What i do is run Avast Virus scan on a specific folder then that specific folder gets Cached because its being read.
I noticed it doing that.

You can see it works because the second time you run the virus scan it actually is like 80x faster than off the regular HDD if your caching onto SSD which is what I am doing.

That's an excellent and clever way, I'm wondering how I've never thought of such an out-of-the-box method.
