bluescreen with ATI driver install

Post by smbruce »

I had consistently reproducible bluescreens when using fancy cache on a fresh install of windows 7.

Install windows 7
install fancycache, activate w/ delayed write 10s on boot drive
install ATI catalyst driver suite

At the point where the install would normally unload the graphics driver and load the ATI catalyst driver the machine blue screens and reboots. Disabling fancycache during the install process avoids the bluescreen entirely.

basic machine specs:
core i5 2500k
ASUS p8Z68-VPRO (onboard graphics disabled, onboard sound disabled)
16gb ram
patriot wildfire 120gb ssd (boot)
intel mirror set as a data volume
ATI radeon 6870

Thank you for the bug report.

I'd like to know more details on this issue if possible.
1. Was motherboard drivers (including Intel storage drivers) installed before installing FancyCache? If yes, what's the version of Intel storage driver?
2. What's the version of ATI catalyst driver.
3. Was Volume Edition or Disk Edition of Fancycache installed? Do you have detailed settings of Fancycache?

Many thanks.

On my system I just had the same problem but without FancyCache running. I used a stripped boot,
nothing but the mouse driver, uninstalled the 11.7 drivers as per instructions on AMD's web site, rebooted
and while installing the newest 12.3 drivers...BSOD.

Microsoft (R) Windows Debugger Version 6.12.0002.633 AMD64 showed "atikmpag.sys" as the problem ,
an ATI driver.
VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (116)
Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed.
It seems the only driver that is 100% stable on this system is the 11.7 drivers so far.

System Spec's...
Win 7 Pro 64bit SP1+ all Tuesday updates
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 v1
I7960
VisionTek Radeon HD6850 (3 monitors, but still BSOD with only 1 monitor plugged in)
12gig Corsair ram
Intel 10.6.0.1002 in AHCI mode
2 Agility2 SSD's + 6 hard drives

It runs at least 16 hrs/day without rebooting with the 11.7 driver.
