Cache hit rate decrease

Post by PerJub »

Hi,

I'm running PrimoCache 2.1.0 on Windows 10

After running my system for a couple of hours I look at my cache hit and it's about 85%

Then I shut down for the night, then the day after after startup my cache hit rate is below 20%

What can cause such a behavior?

Cache hitrate is calculated from the formula: Cache Hit Rate = Cached Read / Total Read * 100%. Actually this hitrate is related to the data usage. If Windows or applications frequently reuqest the old/accessed data, the hitrate will be high. If Windows/applications always request new data, then this hitrate will be low. This is how cache works.
When you restart the computer, the cache hitrate will be reset and recalculated.

I beg to differ!

Most of the times when I start my computer and look in the PrimoCache application I have a cache hit of over 70% and my level 2 cache is almost full and other times the cache hit is down to less than 10% and my level 2 cache is almost empty.

How come that happens?

Well, then this issue is related to L2 cache. It seems that on certain shutdowns, L2 cache content information was not correctly stored and PrimoCache then reset L2 cache to make sure the synchronization with source disks, leading to the decreasement of cache hit rate.
How is your L2 storage device connected to the computer? via external USB or internal SATA interface?
Can you upload a screenshot of the cache settings?
Thanks.
