Can PrimoCache overcome 16 GB limit on Win7 64-bit?
Can PrimoCache overcome 16 GB limit on Win7 64-bit?
I have 24 GB of DDR3 memory installed on a Win7 64-bit Home Premium machine, but that OS recognizes only 16 GB. Can PrimoCache make use of the hidden memory? I would like to make use of this hidden memory in a 12 GB cache the way that PrimoCache can make use of the hidden memory beyond 4 GB on 32-bit systems.
Re: Can PrimoCache overcome 16 GB limit on Win7 64-bit?
I think I have answered my own question. I just set the "OS Invisible Memory" to utilize the 8 GB of hidden memory, and then set the "OS Managed Memory" to utilize 4 GB, and now I have a 12 GB write-only buffer, while still leaving 12 GB for the OS and applications. So all 24 GB are being put to use, and seems to be working fine thus far.
That is all very nice, but it should be mentioned in the documentation.

Agreed - it has been mentioned before on the forums but the ability to exceed Microsoft's (very modest) limits on 64-bit Windows should be properly documented.

Hi, just a quick note for those with a 64bit Win 7 OS, it is the home edition which is capped at 16gb, Pro and upwards is 192gb.
