Best Config Fort Greatest Perfomance !

Post by intika »

Hello

As FancyCache is coming to the final version...

I am using fancy cache one year ago...

I create this post where every tester could expose the used configuration and the best way they use Fancy Cache to determinate what should be the default config and may be what we could recommend to all user...

Here is my conclusion and the best configuration i found :

1. Testing Protocol :
- Laptop HP HDX16
- 500 GB HDD 7200 Trs
- 8 GB @ 800 hz
- Windows 7 32 Bits and 64 Bit

2. FancyCache Version :
- I prefer use fancy cache for volume cause like that we could put in cache windows volume or specific drive known as used a lot ...
- Think to set a big amount of ram to system partition.

3. Windows Cache (Windows Paging) :
- Testing fancy cache with windows cache paging... i concluded that less paging memory is used more the system is going faster, but it depend on the amount of used ram on fancy cache and ram for system... if you have more 4 GB Ram or more you should make paging memory at minimum to reduce useless cache and double cache access... cause windows is caching overflow ram on file on hdd (paging system) and fancy cache is caching files on ram from HDD... after all my test i concluded that putting 512 Mo on windows paging system is a good deal...

4. Windows Tweaks :
- You should disable these windows feature to decrease unneeded HDD access :
--- Windows search
--- Prefetching System
--- Windows recovery system (and use an other recovery system...)
--- Other service depending on your configurations...

5. How much ram ? :
- Windows need 2 GB Free ram to work correctly so let 2 GB free for windows and all the rest put it on fancy cache...

6. Even more speed :
- i am also using other ram acceleration software by caching system as ebootr (there is many softs like that)... the good ans wonderful thing is that fancy cache is compatible with all software !!! and awaiting the option will be developed on fancy cache i am using additional caching soft (eboostr let you put in cache "Ram" the most used software, to make them start faster... it just help the start of different softs...) ... i suggest to let the user choose what to put in cache in fancy cache plus LFU LRU Algorithm... any way i think will see these option later on fancy cache...

7. Using hidden ram on 32 bit systems :
- The great feature that let us use hidden memory let us use directly the hidden ram on 32bit system and get direct memory access to this ram like that we could get best speed ! cause if we use this hidden ram over Ramdisk we loose a lot of speed cause of the partition emulation...

8. FancyCache Enabled :
- As Fancy Cache is enabled on a system tray to reduce starting softs and service with the system to let fancy cache be assigned more ram... let just the real needed softs and service at start and prefer a short cut of a software in task bar comparing to leaving it automatically opened at start... cause when fc is enabled the software start very quickly, so to let the system start more faster disabled unneeded soft at start like Adobe.Quick.Lunch etc. (cause with FC it's useless)

9. Even more and more speed :
- You could use an additional soft to make the machine even more speedy like "Process lasso" ... this soft help windows to manage the CPU affinity and optimize CPU usage to let the user get full benefice from the CPU...

10. How much free ram to leave ? :
- Managing the amount of ram used in Fancy Cache and Windows you should have 20% ram free in normal use to get you system working very fast ! ... i tested the system from 50% free to 95% and the best performance i get is when the system have 20% free ram...

Any way this is my conclusion... hope other user will post theirs configuration... and hope that this will help other tester... and at last i hope that listing other softs don't cause problem to Romex Soft if it's the case please tell me i'll modify my post ! (and sorry...)

Thanks

ENJOY FC POWER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS : With all this configuration i get my system performance at 250 % it's really amazing !

i think this thread should be renamed Best Config Fort Greatest Perfomance For Me or Best Config Fort Greatest Performance While Staring At Fancy Caches Stats Screen as 1.6GB ram plus 512mb pagefile isn't going to = 250% unless you spend all day restarting your pc all day or you just browse the web all day with apps lke game that use alot of ram its going to = why is my game so laggy or wtf my game just crashed or in my case i use 10gb+ ram if it set fancyache to use all but 20% ram so i have 2.9gb + 512gb will i get 250% performance increase??

hi sparkler...
sparkler wrote:should be renamed Best Config Fort Greatest Perfomance For Me or Best Config Fort Greatest Performance
i take the example of my config to post what i noticed ! like reducing paging file ! and this is valid for every config
sparkler wrote: Fancy Caches Stats Screen as 1.6GB ram plus 512mb pagefile isn't going to = 250% unless you spend all day restarting your pc all day or you just browse the web all day
???? explain !
sparkler wrote:with apps lke game that use alot of ram its going to = why is my game so laggy
in case you use application that need lot of ram...
be logic...
i say that you have to keep 20% free...
FancyCache is here to make the hard drive going more speed r/w... if your application take a lot of ram you should have a lot of ram + 20% free for eventual other stuff and enough ram to use fancy cache plus the rest
you are not going to play recent game on 5 year machine old it's logic !!
So !!! imagine your game take 3GB ram then you should have at last 4GB ram (3GB for your game + 512Mo for fancycache + the rest free + 512 paging on hdd) it's an example
sparkler wrote:why is my game so laggy or wtf my game just crashed or in my case i use 10gb+ ram if it set fancyache to use all but 20% ram so i have 2.9gb + 512gb will i get 250% performance increase??
????? be more explicit !!!
when i say 20% it's 20% free from all !!!!!!!!!
Example !
if you have 8 GB Ram : (and if your windows + your application = are using 4 GB from 8GB in normal use)
You should use : (8 GB = 4GB + 2GB For FC + 2GB Free Unused)
or is you prefer :
You should use : (8 GB = 4GB + 2.4GB For FC + 1.6GB Free Unused)

any way it's not a rule it's just an opinion... you are not obliged to agree !

Tell us what's the best config according yo you ! in place that you just put this !
the topic is here for that !
i'am not saying i'am right at all i'am just posting what i notified...
reading what you say... i'am wondering what's your config model :) let us know !

Cheers

i have it set to 1GB cache 10 sec defer for my system partition 1GB for my games partition and 1GB for my VM's and /users// partition not much point in adding more as fancycache isn't very cleaver when it decides what to cache as antivirus and defragmenting sets it off and better off being reserved for filesystem cache (broken in windows) and prefetch/superfetch and 16GB pagefile as im too lazy to change it and ive got lots of space but i find 4GB pagefile ok for windows large enough for when windows filesystem cache goes off on one and uses up all available ram good in linux but in windows it makes the OS think its out of ram and starts paging everything so you end up with a 2-3GB pagefile usage

Hello intika,

thank you for this great guide. I'm a new user and want to try Fancycache on my system.

What I don't understand:
I'm already using a Ramdisk on my system. Do you mean that it would be better to disable / not use a Ramdisk with FancyCache at all or only not to use the hidden ram with / in the RamDisk?

Thanks again

Hello bermuk11,

What i mean by point 7 is :

First to answer you... it doesn't matter if you use RamDisk with FancyCache the speed is not about it...

i explain my self, point 7 is about hidden ram. (We know that 32 system could only use 4 GB ram max... some are using only 3 GB depending on the memory addressing with video etc. any way you only need to know that 32 bit system could not use more than 4 GB ram even if you have for example 8 GB installed... so the ram that windows could not use is called hidden ram... actually we could use it with FancyCache and with RamDisk)

In the case you are using your hidden ram with ramdisk, don't put cache file of fancy cache on the emulated partition by ramdisk prefer using hidden ram directly on FancyCache if you ask why ?! it's cause when you use the hidden ram over Ramdisk the speed/transfer rate is less important than accessing the memory directly cause of the partition emulation

RamDisk :
[Hidden Ram] ---- [RamDisk Driver] ---- [Partition] ---- [FAT32/NTFS System] ---- USED FILE

FancyCache :
[Hidden Ram] ---- [FancyCache Driver] ---- USED FILE

The fact that we use a partition emulation and a system file make the hidden ram less speed...

it's why i indicated if you are using hidden ram think to use it directly on FancyCache...

now if you are putting Paging file on your RamDisk if preferable to disable Paging system letting it at minimum on your real drive and maximize the memory for fancy cache.

it depend on what you put on you ramdisk...

Fancy cache and ramdisk are compatible.

Give me more info on your config ?! what do you put in your RamDisk ?

Hello Intika,

Thank you for sharing your experience here, it is going to be quite useful. What I do not understand at this point is how you got Fancy Cache and Ram Disc to both use hidden (I assume that is the same as what is referred to as invisible memory). The last I heard on this forum was the two programs could not safely use this memory at the same time. Did I miss a feature adding this capability; have you done some kind of work around to avoid hidden memory conflicts between the two programs, or is it something else?

Thanks for everything so far,

Rich

Hello RRTRACKS,

It's been a long time i am not using ramdisk but if you want to use hidden ram on both program it's a little complicated but it's not impossible...

i was just comparing the using of the hidden ram on FC and RamDisk... i noticed that using hidden ram on FC is more efficient...

Any way if you want to use you hidden ram on both FC and Ramdisk there is many solutions... first you can try to use the option "Reserve first ...MB" on ramdisk options

example :
if you have 4GB hidden ram and you are using 2 GB on fancy cache.
hit "Reserve first ...MB" on ramdisk options and set it to 2100 MB ...

be sure of the amount of free unused ram, in some mother board part of this ram is used for something else like video ram...

have a nice day...
