Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall Topic is solved
Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
Fancy cache was working under Windows 7 X64 Ultimate when I chose to reinstall onto my RAID0 array so I can use my SSD 100% for caching.
Destroyed and recreated 1TB RAID array
Partitioned
Installed Windows 7 X64 Ultimate
Installed drivers
Installed Fancy cache
Rebooted (multiple times)
Fancy Cache for Volumes and Disks reports "Failed to report the status 0x80041010"
Tried reinstalling multiple times
Have rebooted 30+ times after reinstalling, uninstalling, etc with no avail.
What a waste of time.

Re: Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
Which version of FancyCache did you use before and now?
After installed FancyCache (Disk Edition), can you check the values "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the registry path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Is there any error coming from "FancyCcD" in the Windows Event Viewer?

Re: Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
I used version 0.6.1 and it worked great, then installed 0.6.2 since it came out the 30th as I reinstalled Windows 7 X64 Ultimate on the 1st and I discovered Fancy Cache on the 28th. Cannot find a link for 0.6.1 for testing to see if it was a revision that caused the problem.
I uninstalled then checked for left items using RevoUninstaller in which it found none (Tidy uninstaller I may say). Rebooted, reinstalled then rebooted again. This has been my protocol for installing FC.
For this experiment I uninstalled, rebooted, installed FC for Disks, rebooted, dumped keys and other info, restarted, installed FC for Volumes, restarted, and compared dumps. Nothing changed in regards to registry dump so I submitted this information. Still no Event Viewer logs.
Here is a registry dump of the requested key(s). Nested "Property" key "Access is Denied".
Human readable "Upperfilters"
FancyCcD
tdrpman273
PartMgr
snapman
tdrpman273
Cannot find "Lowerfilters".
Also, no Event logs found for requested Source.
I'm willing to participate in a remote viewer session so your support team may gain knowledge of this bug using whichever methods you require. Although for such a extreme measure I would feel the need to be compensated with a beta/RC or other key of sort if such efforts were fruitful in debugging your beta, only fair. Otherwise I'll keep debugging myself.
I feel this is a major issue because:
I used a nukeandboot to clear ALL HDDs
I destroyed and recreated my 4 disk RAID array
I switched Windows to a EFI boot with GPT partitions (vs MBR with MBR partitions) the way of the future
I used a genuine Windows 7 x64 Ultimate DVD and reinstalled Windows using EFI
I installed all updates and patches and set system time to local
I then installed your software properly in which it did not work after many many attempts.
I'm using latest hardware, P67 chipset with Intel Raid Option on a 2500K
Maybe it's not working because I'm using EFI boot with GPT partitions? This is the only variable that has changed between installs. I'm booting off a 4 disk 1TB array with a 3TB array for data on my Intel Sata II controller and a Kingston 64GB SSD on my Intel SATA III controller all gpt and windows was installed using the EFI shell. When booting I get a blinking cursor top left (EFI boot shell) while Windows is loading until I'm "Logging in" and thrown to desktop.
Using EFI, GPT, RAID arrays, SSDs, and running on the "latest" hardware gives you a good demographic for workstations, enthusiasts, and maybe even servers; your target market.

Re: Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
Thank you for the detail information.
I don't think this issue is caused by the latest revison, but anyway, you can download the version 0.6.1 from below,
(note: since you use the raid array, it is not recommended to try the 0.6.1 again because it has a fatal bug on some raid adapters)
Disk Edition: http://www.romexsoftware.com/download/b ... .Setup.zip
Volume Edition: http://www.romexsoftware.com/download/b ... .Setup.zip
According to the error code, we roughly know what the issue is. But so far we are not sure what is the root cause. If you are willing, later we'll send you a debug version which enables more logs. This might help us locate the issue. And don't worry about the license, as we said before, we always provide discount or free license for the responsive testers.
We are also interested in your windows boot partition and raid array. Can you give us more information about them? Are windows OS installed in a separated disk or in the 4 disk RAID array? which raid level do you use for the raid array?
Thank you.

Re: Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
I'm using a ASUS P8P67 B3 (fixed chipset for SATA bug) on the Intel Raid controller. I have 4 disks of 1TB each split into a boot 1TB array in RAID 0 @ 128K sector and a 3TB array in RAID 0 @ 16K sector. The HDDs are attached to 4 of 4 of my Intel SATA 3GB/s ports, the Kingston SSDNOW 64GB is attached to 1 of 2 of my Intel 6GB/s ports and my CDROM is attached to port 2 of 2 of the Intel 6GB/s ports since EFI boot will not work if attached to the Marvell® PCIe 9120 controller.
I installed using the EFI bootloader on a genuine Windows 7 X64 Ultimate CD, converted to GPT partitions on all my drives and formatted using NTFS. I installed Windows on the 1TB array and install games, etc on my 3TB array.
I'll be willing to assist in any way possible, I'll be happy to run the debug version. As for 0.6.1 if you do not recommend running it on a RAID array I won't bother.

Have sent you an email for the debug version. pls check.
Thanks.

Re: Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
No, my PC does not run in safe mode. My install was from a genuine Windows 7 x64 DVD and activated normally using a legal key. I did not install or change any setting other than install Windows Updates. I then installed your software and it has failed to work. sfx/scannow reports no errors and disk check reports no errors.
I believe it is how my disks are partitioned and the Windows EFI bootloader. Your driver may be failing to load on boot because it doesn't work in a EFI/RAID environment. I had no troubles before I went EFI/RAID on my previous install on a single MBR partition.

Re: Fancy Cache does not work after Windows reinstall
well, we'll check the EFI/RAID environment. Thank you.
