Hybrid + Backing Image

Post by hshah »

I am a little confused as to how the hybrid-disk feature works. The backing image option is not available with hybrid-disk, so whilst you have a file for the disk component, where does the RAM get saved for reboots etc?

Or is it not possible to persist when using hybrid-drive?

So far the contents in a Hybrid-drive are not persistent after reboot/shutdown. However, we do plan to support backing images for hybrid-drives.
Thanks.

Any idea when you may add support for it?

Man, I would REALLY love this feature. I have 40-45 GB of RAM for use in a RAMdisk, but a lot of games are bigger than this, so I use the Hybrid option with an SSD. If I had the ability to make an image of the hybrid RAMdisk, I could set up a few images for my games that don't fit in the RAMdrive. It would basically double the size of my game installs, but I don't care. The speed of the RAMdrive is fantastic. I use PrimoCache with 40 GB of L1 and a 256 GB SATA SSD for L2, and basically, my 10 TB WD Gold mechanical HD is as fast as a really good SSD.. but the RAMdisk is 6 or 7 times that speed. PLEASE add this feature!

That is wonderful news if true. I really do want this feature. It would enable things that just aren't possible at this time.
