BSOD after waking from sleep mode

Post by toniostarcevic »

Hello,

I just recently purchased Primo Cache and didn't realize that it crashes my pc when waking from sleep mode. I get a BSOD with the message "Attempted write to readonly memory" right after waking. Since shutting down the PC deletes the cache, sleep mode is vital to use this program properly.
Not sure if sleep mode is the correct term - in the german Windows it's called energy-saving mode. (the mode where opened programs are kept in memory)

Do you have any idea what is causing this?
My system:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Anniversary Update installed
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K
RAM: Kingston Hyper X DDR3 32 GB
Mainboard: Gigabyte X79-UP4

My Primo Cache settings: Cache enabled on both drives - a 256 GB SSD and a 2 TB HDD, L1 Cache only, read mode, half of RAM assigned.
If you need any kind of logs, please give me a short tutorial how to make them.
Thanks!

Did you install the latest PrimoCache version 2.6.0?
Can you find and send us ([email protected]) the dump file for this BSOD? See
https://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/kno ... -file.html
Thanks!

Yes, I have vesion 2.6.0 installed.
Alright, I've just produced another BSOD and sent you the dump file.
Meanwhile I've tested it about 20 times - the BSOD is fully reproducable. It happens on every wake when a Cache is set. Most of the time it happenes immediately after waking (0.5-2 sec.), but a few times it took longer - up to about 40 seconds.

I'm sorry that so far we still don't have any ideas about this problem. We tried to reproduce the problem, but haven't happened yet.
According to the bsod dump file, it only tells that error was happened in the "win32kfull.sys" which is a Windows file and cannot get more useful information about this problem.
Perhaps you may try the following testing:
1. In the cache setting page, click "Advanced Level-1 Cache Options" button and tick the option "Release L1 Cache on Hybrid-Sleep or Hibernation". Then see if this helps or not.
2. Do Memory Diagnostic. We have the case that users have issues on memory sticks and problems didn't happen without PrimoCache because in normal usage only a very few portion of memory was used.

Thanks! If you still have problems, we can arrange a refund for you.

I've done a memory diagnostic not too long ago. I also don't use Primo Cache on a USB stick, only on my 2 internal drives. (a 256 GB SSD and a 2 TB HDD) I don't think it's a hardware problem, the pc is just about 3 1/2 years old and it's a 4k$ high-end machine configured by specialists.

Releasing the cache on sleep is no solution, then I also could just quit the cache manually before going into sleep mode.
Avoiding the BSOD is not the problem. I want to use Primo Cache at its full potential, what is not possible if you release the cache regularly or shut down your pc.
But I've found something that works - Hibernation instead of Sleep Mode.
I'm not sure why I didn't use Hybernation for so long. It's an awesome feature. Sleep Mode is very fast, since it has no boot up time, but the boot from Hybernation Mode is also very fast. It doesn't use power like Sleep Mode, and you don't loose anything when a electricity cut happens.

Thanks for the offer, but this fixed my problem.

I'm glad that you find a workaround now! :) We'll still keep an eye on this problem as it seems a little strange. If we find something in future, I'll update this topic.
Thank you again!
