Recently we tested the Intel Optane SSD 900P in detail, as well as the cache performance on using the SSD 900P as a level-2 cache. We also discussed suitable application scenarios in servers/workstations in short. For more details, please see

Good info and write-up, thanks. Seems like a very strong L2 performer.

Excellent article!

This should be posted on the web!

M2 SSD's running at PCIe 4.0 interface are SO FAST these days that anything other than pure memory is gonna be slower for PrimoCache.
It could be useful to hard disk but it's defnitely a no-go for faster M2 drives.

Would love to test Primo Cache server edition on a Windows Server 20H2 edition with Storage Spaces on 2 x 2TB Server Grade disks with memory as cache while having a secondary SSD as L2

If you guys want such a review, please contact me, I will love to publish it online also!

intel Optane P1600X 58GB cost $38. Almost free! And it's more that enough for cache in home/workstation machine.

If you are a real Rockfella - 118GB is available for $75. My choice! =)

M.2 PCIe 4.0 are not so fast, essentially: their responce time is still about 40-50uS (While deidicated cache drives like Intel Optane 7uS) and their short queue read speed is still about 80Mb/s best models (intel Optane P1600X 250Mb/s, for comparison). And linear read speed scenarion presents about 1% of home PC workload, no more
