Well, Defer-write option is actually controlled by Configuration Set combox in the left-top, not the cache strategy.

The behaviour I described is what happens with the topmost box set to optimise Reads. Changing it to Writes enables deferred cache but also locks the cache mode to Write Only (i.e. grayed out so cannot be changed). Only the Custom setting seems to behave sensibly, with all options changeable.

It would seem most logical for the topmost box to only set initial values for the other fields, leaving them all user-modifiable.
