Block Size question

Post by Daniel290881 »

Hi.
I have a Question regarding block size.

I have an ssd with 1TB and 64GB RAM. The cluster size is 4KB. When i open Primocache and begin to create a Cache Task, primo Cache Shows 16kb but of Course i can switch to 4kb. The tutorial says that a value equal to or smaller than cluster size is the best for Performance, so i think i can use 4kb as block size (not regarding the Memory Overhead of 1.3gb because there is enough ram). Is that correct?

Thanks!

Theoretical: yes
Real world: no

I just tested every blocksize and used CrystalDiskMark to see how it performed on my machine.
On my machine 32k blocks gave the best performance.

Okay thanks, i will try that. I only tested crystaldiskmark with primo cache on and off but didnt have the idea to test different cluster sizes too. Thanks!

I have tried to understand the article here https://www.thewindowsclub.com/4k-secto ... es-windows but i dont get it what is the perfect setting for my (nvme ssd) having 64 GB RAM

I have attached two screenshots

In primocache it says "a block size less or equal to the cluster size is the best" so that would mean my clustersize is 32kb and i should choose 32kb, 16kb, 8kb or 4kb?

Appreciate any help or tip. thank you

This statement is kind of outdated. For most recent computers, 32KB~64KB might be the best. Since your cluster size is 32KB, then just use the 32KB as the cache block size. That should be the best.
