Dynamic memory/compact on server 2008 R2 x64?

Post by yevgenyn »

Hello,

I am evaluating the Ramdisk Server on Windows Server 2008R2 x64.
I created a 4GB disk with [Dynamic memory management] (see full info down below).
However now I see memory consumption in Task Manager around 6.4GB although I have just a few small files on the ram drive.
Besides, if I enable [Compact mode] checkbox under [Dynamic memory management] is remains unchecked after I view the properties again.

Is the dynamic memory management feature supported on Windows Server 2008R2 x64?
Is the compact mode checkbox supposed to work on that operating system?

Thank you!

This is because the image file will make the DMM no effect. When loading the image file to ramdisk, memory will be allocated to hold the image file content. To avoid such problem, you may enable the "Delay Load" option for the image file. please see
http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/prim ... delay-load

And because the image file format is "Plain Image", the "Compact mode" is disabled.

Thank you for a quick and detailed reply!
I have rebuilt the ramdisk without the image file and I do not see that extra memory consumption anymore.
Just a dumb user's opinion: it looks like it would make sense to have a hint of some sort in the vicinity of the image file selection edit box in the Image Settings Page
if the dynamic memory management was selected in the begining of the page sequence.
