Features Suggestions

Post by misabel »

Great software! I've started doing some testing using sqlio with a mix of random/sequential read/write and so far look good! I can share those results if you want.

Here are some features I would like to see as an enterprise user:
- Persistent write cache (something that would use the NTFS change journal should do the job in our case)
- Block deduplication in L1 and L2 cache: Since we can have many VMs that are using identical blocks, it would mean a more efficient use of the RAM and SSD resources
- Block compression: Again, the more efficient we can be with RAM and SSD utilization the better! Available CPU cycle are not a problem for us on our virtualization platform.
- Cache pooling across multiple disks
- Distributed cache across nodes in a cluster

We're currently considering VeloBit for a proof of concept using Windows Server 2012 and a Storage Spaces cluster which will also host Hyper-V VMs. I figured I would give FancyCache a shot and see how it goes... We're targeting to use Hyper-V Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Core but I'm not sure if the software will install as the GUI is limited in that mode.

Thanks!
