v0.3.0.0 Win7 64-bit feedback...

Post by magic-man »

Just installed the new beta (v0.3.0.0) on the following:
HP DV7-2270 Laptop.
Windows 7 64-bit ultimate
8 Gigs RAM
Drive 0: OCZ Vertex LE 100G SSD (Sandforce controller)
Drive 1: Seagate ST9500 500G HDD
Running VMWare mostly and lotsa surfing...

was not sure whether I should install volume or disk version, but went with volume.
Installation went smooth, no issues.
Set up a 1 Gig L1 cache for the SSD with 4K cluster size to match the SSD.

Everything is much smoother! VMs suspend and resume almost instantly and shut down faster.

Overall, very nice!!!! No bugs so far! :D

Still not sure if I shoulda set up disk or volume, but so far, so fast!

Edit: I uninstalled volume and installed the disk one. I would think it does not matter, since I only have 1 hidden partition and my normal partition on the disk...
SO FAR SO FAST!

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

If you have only one partition in one drive, we suggest the Volume Edition. The Disk Edition is for some users who want to use one cache for the all partitions in one drive.

Ya, I just uninstalled the disk version and went back to the volume one...
Looks good!
Question: Should I match my cluster size to the disk, or does it matter?

I also noticed that when Windows backup runs, it does not use any of the read cache memory (prob due to block reads as opposed to file system API reads)... Very nice!

No, you don't need to match the block size to the file system's cluster size. Generally smaller block size brings higher performance however increases cache overhead as well as additional memory allocated. The program gives a recommended value according to the capacity of volume/disk.
