Gaming & Large Files

Post by Maga »

Good Day,

I have been using FC for some time now (~8 months) and it's pretty good to have as a write cache for my slow HDD, not so good for the reading ones (bad config probably).

The question i have now it's that some games have large files (like Guild Wars 2 have a 15gbs files  ), I want to know if I set the cache to 4gbs Read/write (or any other for that matter) it's going to be usefull, since the cache it's way smaller than the cached file.

Config:
FancyCache Disk 0.8
- Cache: 4096
- Block: 128k
- LFU-R
- Read/Write
- Defer Write
- Overcome HDD C1 Issue

Phenom II x4 B50
8gbs 1333 ram

Some suggestions:
- A Log file with the "Performance Statics"
- "CPU Usage" in the Perfomance Statics Menu
- A PDF manual with every option explained in extend and some examples configuration.
- A floating like gadged (but no a "windows vista/7/8" gadged) ~256x256 with some info (most relevant/selectable)
- A version for home user (price wise)
- "fund beta" Pay now get full later.

Fancy Cache uses block level caching, not file level.

Maga keep in mind the cache only helps you when the data has already loaded.

Hopefully this thread will help you understand how the caching works. It's a bit oversimplified but I thought it would help non-technical people understand the process a bit better.
