Re: what can i expect from raid 0 + cache ssd?

You can expect something like 80% of the spec performance of the caching device. We had a recent discussion of this over at AnandTech forums' "Memory and Storage". It is easy to reach the erroneous conclusion that the cached speed performance will be significantly influenced by the speed o...

Re: The fall Creators Update #1709 and PrimoCache

My daily laptop already on Windows Spring Creator Updates 17715 and don't have any issue. Other than reenabling the drive to be cached; I don't have any issue after the upgrade. Just normal cleaning of the old windows archive folder and upgrade download. It seem this version of Windows worked even ...

Re: Automated Scheduling to Pause and Resume a Cache?

Thanks, Support . . . I use similar batch files on another system to change Power profiles -- allowing the computer to sleep/hibernate, or just stay awake. Truth is, it isn't much to leave the Primo GUI running minimized. It never interferes with anything. In regard to the issues behind this thread,...

Re: Automated Scheduling to Pause and Resume a Cache?

How about using CLI commands to pause/resume in a script/batch file? Well, Bro, you're "support" and you know what is possible. Would that approach allow me to schedule unattended pause and resume? Also, I'm rusty on my old PC supremacy confidence, and if it doesn't bother you, could you ...

Automated Scheduling to Pause and Resume a Cache?

Last year, I had a problem with a two-tiered caching of an SATA HDD, which I only suspected arose from my daily scheduled Macrium Reflect backup. It would require me to occasionally run CHKDSK repairs of the source HDD. I haven't proven that the two-tiered caching -- RAM-cache on top of SSD-(NVME)-C...

The fall Creators Update #1709 and PrimoCache

After I struggled through troubleshooting the #1703 CU with Windows 10, I had enough caution and reticence about another CU to defer installing #1709 for up to a year. Somehow, Win Update seemed to take over in the matter of that decision, and I could only cross my fingers knowing that I had good Ma...

Re: NVMe support, is Promocache viable?

Here's an Anvil benchmark result for an SATA SSD cached to an NVME M.2 SSD. Deferred writes are enabled. Otherwise, the Sequential Write rate would reflect the spec expectations for the SATA SSD. Since it is the speed of the caching volume that counts more toward these results, you would still have ...

Re: L2 Cache retention?

Hi just to report back, this issue is solved now, my computer was using the Windows 10 fastboot option, turned out that this was the reason the cache was flushing constantly. I turned it off and my issue was gone. running 3.0.2 now. Thanks! - Koen. I'm glad took a look at this thread. Once a month,...

Re: Somthing toward a "sticky:" Suggestiion for a configuration discussion for various PC usage patterns

Doesn't using L1 RAM cache for reads seem wasteful? Windows uses free memory for file system buffer so anything you reread will be fetched from RAM anyway. Since PrimoCache v3 I set L1 RAM cache to 100%-write so it is used for deferred writes only, and L2 SSD cache to shared read/write. Interesting...

Re: L2 caching broke after Windows Update - how often does this happen

As far as I know Windows update is constantly breaking the cache. This seems to be a Windows 10 issue and might be due to the fact that an update is in fact a new install. Therfor the cache does not work anymore and has to be redone. Hmm I am not caching my OS drive though... I don't think I graspe...
