Re: CHIA and PrimoCache

But Jaga gave me an idea. Perhaps having HDD RAID with enough disks to beat SSD in sequential bandwidth would be even faster using PrimoCache. It definitely can be. That's why I'm using 4x HDDs in RAID 0, to overcome both the individual drive performance limit, and to give Primocache a single plott...

Re: CHIA and PrimoCache

I have done quite a bunch of Chia plotting recently, lik 80 TBytes of plots so far. Outputting over 50 plots per day. My believe is that PrimoCache will bring you no gain in speed, but a gain in SSD lifetime. I'm using it a bit differently, and see a 70% gain in overall speeds: 52GB L1 (Read/Write)...

Re: Upgrading / Home use license for Windows Server 2019

As an alternative suggestion, look into Stablebit Drivepool. I opted using it instead of Storage Spaces, for a bunch of different reasons. Support can help with licensing though, whichever way you decide on. :)

Re: cache replacement policy

The way I understand the cache to work, is on a Most Used vs Least Used algorithm. i.e. the Least Used blocks in the cache (those that are accessed the least often) are the first to go, while those with the Most Used number of accesses tend to stay in the cache.

Re: CHIA and PrimoCache

We have already received some feedbacks from customers, saying that they can do more plotting at the same time. Usually their rigs have 128G ~ 2T RAM installed. Cool, that verifies my assumptions that standard rigs don't really gain much with it. Would be super nice to see the difference on a rig w...

Re: CHIA and PrimoCache

I hate to admit it, but based on my testing with Chia (both single and parallel plots), I don't think I'd recommend Primocache for use with it unless you have an Enterprise class server with ~1TB or more of RAM to devote. The reason is simple: using a L2 cache from Primocache is basically the same a...

Re: CHIA and PrimoCache

I've been doing some reading on Chia lately, and it appears that many SSD manufacturers instantly void your warranty if/when they learn that the drive was used with Chia in any way. Chia literally destroys write cycle life on SSDs, even those with high endurance. One Chia user however has a beefy L1...

Re: Recovering SSD

Typically in this scenario you'd run the Windows Disk Management plugin to make volume changes. Right-click "My Computer" / "This PC", choose "Manage", then click on "Disk Management". You should see all physical drives connected to your PC there, and be able ...

Re: Use two, separate L2 cache drives for read and write?

Pretty sure the rule of thumb is one (1) L2 volume per cache task. And once you add a volume to *be* cached (i.e. your boot drive) to a cache task, it isn't available to add to any other cache task again. It is essentially a 1:1 ratio of cache volume to L2 target volume. You can use hardware or soft...

Re: Removing primocache!!

Does the software let you uninstall it through the Control Panel? That should also remove any associated cache data. You may also be able to simply "stop" the cache, at which point it won't interfere with normal operation of the machine even if the driver still loads at boot.
