Re: Use combined storage space

No the Amount dedicated to L2 cache can't be use as storage. I think with 1Tb to cache you only need 50-100gig L2 partition and the rest of the ssd can be dedicated to storage, leaving you with 1.4-45Tb storage.

Just happened to me as well after I installed the latest 1903 windows update, maybe that was your problem too?

Re: Caching Options for Downloads Drive

Yeah the 2TB one. Not that important for your setup though because I doubt the L2 cache will have much work to do for you. With matched block/cluster size I find ssd L2 cache performance to be 95% of native ssd performance, with a bigger block size than cluster size speed drops to maybe 85% of nativ...

Re: Caching Options for Downloads Drive

I would do 16KB block size, and format the hard disk to 16KB cluster size if possible. Not super important though for a downloads cache. I just use whatever keeps the overhead below 1GB of ram because at that point you're just losing performance from not being able to dedicate that ram to L1 cache.

Re: any suggestion?

Probably be ok, I think shared read/write lets up to 90% of it be used for writes if it's needed. I just don't like taking ram away from windows cache but 1Gb probably wouldn't hurt too much, your hit rate might might look higher than it really is though because windows 'swaps' out it's cache to you...

read/write setting

I have my L1 cache set to read/write without reserving a percentage for each, I image this means the read/write cache adjust size on the fly according to demand? What's the maximum size primocache sets the write cache in this scenario? 75%,90%?

Re: any suggestion?

Using the L2 as a read only cache is great for reducing writes to the SSD, and leaving 10% of the drive unpartitioned will also help wear. A small write only L1 cache of 128-256Mb will speed up writes greatly too.

Re: Caching Options for Downloads Drive

Yeah I'd do read/write for both with that much ram, L2 might not even be necessary. Also it's good health for the SSD to leave maybe 10% of the drive unpartitioned you only seem to have 1% unpartitioned.

Re: 1Tb SSD Level 2 cache for gaming?

I would install windows onto a 250gb partition of the ssd and all the apps and games onto the mechanical drive formated with a 32k cluster size to reduce overhead. Then I'd use a 32k block 500gb partition of the ssd to cache the mechanical drive. I find if I make the primocache block the same as the...
