Re: Event 129 secnvme

I'm still waiting on the PSU before I try that. Also I've rolled back to the drivers that windows updates wants to install, which are even older, in case Microsoft knows something we don't heh I totally forgot I still had the 970 EVO sitting in a box nearby, so I went ahead and installed a fresh co...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

Down the rabbit hole... Given the above error, I started digging into diagnostics for my PCH/PCIe chipset. I discovered that despite multiple services telling me I had the latest chipset drivers - Intel Driver & Support Assistant, Windows Update, etc - there was a significantly newer driver set ...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

PCIe->NVMe adapter didn't help but I did get a new EventViewer log entry that may provide additional debuggable information. 1m05s prior to the secnvme event 129 log entry (which is consistent with a timeout being hit)... - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event&quo...

Re: New build. RAID5 on RST ok?

Yes, from what I understand most implementations of erasure coding are designed for big-data and business environments; multi-node setups rather than just multi-disk. As the limitations of RAID6 become more real for consumers maybe we'll see more action in this area for home users. In the meantime I...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

I've had the official Samsung driver installed all along. I've actually considered rolling back to the Windows-provided driver for testing purposes. I think I have an extra SATAII SSD lying around here somewhere, so I may try setting up a fresh Windows install there to see if it repros with just Win...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

More data:
It's not just PrimoCache :(

Tried VeloSSD to see if they had the same problem and they do.
Maybe it's a Samsung driver/hardware issue?

I've got a dedicated PCIe NVMe card on its way from Amazon, in case the issue is with the M.2 slot on my motherboard.

This is really frustrating :\

Re: New build. RAID5 on RST ok?

A coworker with a lot of experience and interest in this area pointed me towards the following document as the "way forward" in terms of durable storage to replace traditional RAID. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_ceph_storage/1.3/html/storage_strategies_guide/erasure...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

My latest investigation leads me to believe that the issue I am seeing is specific to the PrimoCache shim/driver compatibility with Samsung NVMe SSDs. - I can reproduce the issue with both the Samsung 970 EVO and Samsung 970 PRO - I can reproduce the issue with either M.2 slot on my motherboard - I ...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

I'm back to suspecting a problem with PrimoCache :\ I received my RMA and had the same issue. I purchased a Samsung 970 PRO (not EVO) and am ALSO experiencing the same problem when using PrimoCache. The 970 PRO does not get nearly as hot; temperature on all sensors stays below 70ºC Let me know if th...
