Re: PrimoCache Server in combination with a Intel 900P Optane card
So, I have the new server set up and the Optane P900 is running. I wonder on the performance values that I see. Can it be that data that has just been saved to disk with write caching enabled is not immediately available for reading from the cache? I thought that has been changed in Beta 3.x over 2....

Re: PrimoCache Server in combination with a Intel 900P Optane card
We do film post production. So its a lot of streaming data and even more image sequences in HD, 4k and higher. We use a small render farm, so there is regularly hefty i/o stress on the system with hundrets of cores requesting identical source data, but writing excessively different target files simu...

Re: PrimoCache Server in combination with a Intel 900P Optane card
We will get our new server next week with a single optane p900 480GB card caching a 64 TB RAID6 volume. Will give it a deep test drive with the latest server beta, including write caching. Can't wait to see how far I can grow network transfer peaks. A second optane is planned, depending on the resul...

Re: PrimoCache Server in combination with a Intel 900P Optane card
Hi Eric, Will PrimoCache accept a soft RAID0 as caching volume? If yes then this is a perfect solution. I hope the RAID0 layer won't introduce too much latency. Right now I have a hardware RAID0 with 4 SATA SSDs. Unfortunately the controller is not allowing/passing through the TRIM command as it see...

Re: PrimoCache Server in combination with a Intel 900P Optane card
We finally published the testing results on SSD 900P and PrimoCache. Please see http://www.romexsoftware.com/bbs2/en-us/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=4531 Thanks. Some questions: a) The link above is dead for me. What are the latest results with PrimoCache and Intel P900 cards here? b) Is there a way to...

Re: Deferred Writes - Power Loss + this is awesome.
1. It's more likely that more data gets safely stored on a SDD write cache than on the target HDD in case of a system crash, due to the fact that the SSD write cache is way faster. That's true. We still have some problems to make 100% (or close to 100%) safety, but we will work on it. In that conte...

Re: Deferred Writes - Power Loss + this is awesome.
Just to reiterate: 1. It's more likely that more data gets safely stored on a SDD write cache than on the target HDD in case of a system crash, due to the fact that the SSD write cache is way faster. 2. Data safely written to the SSD write cache in case of a system crash is completely useless if you...

Re: Deferred Writes - Power Loss + this is awesome.
My ideas where not about anyway altering the caching algorithm, but about adding functionality to survive a BSOD and recover with as much as possible data, ie. all data, that has at least been written to an SSD write cache, but not yet to the target disk. Whatever makes a cache strategy efficient or...

Re: Deferred Writes - Power Loss + this is awesome.
I would use only SSD READ caching for you hardware main OS. Then use another cache task for all the VM's to enable R/W for them and you can rebuild these VM's easily if one is broken by a BSOD crash and lost write cache data. This gives you maxium performance. You may consider using an Intel P900 fo...
