Re: Need help setting up my SSD for Caching

You're right I had a specific use or want when I found this program. Most people are confused by the limitations of the program and expect that it can do far more than what software (in general) is capable of doing. I guess it does seem a bit magical. :) That is one of the problems with this applic...

Re: Fancycache for systems with a modest amount of RAM

I was hoping to run FancyCache to improve the performance of an old laptop that has a mere 512MB of RAM. No doubt that it's a useful machine but with that little ram you are seriously limited running modern OSs and software. Is there any chance we'll see a version of FancyCache that will run on suc...

Re: Need help setting up my SSD for Caching

5400RPM is really slow when it's being utilized at 100%. So many people have come to this product looking for some magic that will make their slow hard drives fast. You will still have to read data off of the slow HDD and the cache only becomes useful after you try to access that data a 2nd+ time. ...

Re: Question about cache flushing

I chose 35 seconds because (as I understand it as a n00b) windows sends the TRIM command to SSD's every 30s and I want the SSD and the cache to catch it. This should reduce wear on the SSD by trimming some data in-cache. Well there are a couple of problems with this approach. You are putting your d...

Article illustrating how write caching can reduce performanc

Yes I know it seems like common sense, use delay writing and you get better performance but it's not that cut and dry. Hobbyist blogs love to advise people how to use these technologies to give "better performance" but they are just an echo chamber repeating bad advice that they've read so...

Re: Default Setting guidance?

Paging file is for speed the speed of RAM is still faster than my 120GB SSD drive as well as it does not eat up to 4GB of my 120GB SSD drive. The pagefile is designed to work at HDD speed, it doesn't do big fast R/Ws. You'll see the same R/W speeds that you saw on your SSD which is not very much (m...

Re: Default settings best settings?

Why do you want to use FancyCache with videos? Even full 1080p BluRays only need a 6.7 MB transfer rate, your HDD could do that and 10 other things and still be fine. I can play with settings all day that does not help me. Yes it does that is how you determine what is best for your configuration. Th...

Re: Default settings best settings?

Each machine is different and there are many factors that will determine what the best setting for your configuration is. Your best bet is to do a baseline benchmark (no FancyCache) then test various configurations benchmarking each, pick the best config with the best overall performance. I'd sugges...

Re: Uses cases server 2008r2

I still wouldn't recommend Fancycache for your application mainly because it has a memory leak and because the product development is very slow. I don't want to insult the devs but there are similar products that are geared towards enterprise. Not to hard to find via google.
