Re: Full Boot Drive into RAM?

Steveb,

For storing a whole volume in RAM, Primo Ramdisk would probably be a better choice. You can run it alongside PrimoCache.

Re: Primo RamDisk

Blizzard1234, You specified above that you were running Windows 10 Pro - could you confirm if you are running the 32-bit or 64-bit version? (32-bit requires the correct PAE settings for Primo Ramdisk to function). Prior to your crash, what were you using the ramdisk for, and did everything appear OK...

Re: Using Primocache with Winbtrfs RAID0

Welcome to the forums Byolock, Could you post a screenshot showing the PrimoCache volume selection screen? The entries listed there could provide useful information. Also, what RAID level are you using? If you're running RAID-1 (mirroring) then reads and writes will only go to one drive (with the Wi...

Re: Primo RamDisk

Support will doubtless pick this thread up, once the working week starts. Do you have any idea why your PC crashed (any clues in Event Viewer, etc) and how long after the install of Primo Ramdisk did it happen? Have you previously installed any other ramdisk? As a last resort, I have listed Primo Ra...

Re: Primo RamDisk

Using Device Manager, try right-clicking on the Primo Ramdisk Controller, select Update Driver, then choose "Install software automatically". If that doesn't work then try disabling and re-enabling the controller, then re-running the Primo Ramdisk application. If it still returns the same ...

Re: Primo RamDisk

Welcome to the forums Blizzard1234, First of all, did Primo Ramdisk work initially and then stop - or did it never work on your system? If it worked initially: Which version of Windows are you running? If Windows 10, have you enabled Core Isolation/Memory Integrity? (if so, you need to disable them)...

Re: New here. Here's setup, what more do you suggest.

About the block size, I was under the impression it should match your actual block size of the drives. It shouldn't be less than the NTFS cluster size used on the drive (it can be, but you'd see no benefit). Matching the cluster size means that PrimoCache will only read (and write) exactly what the...

Re: New here. Here's setup, what more do you suggest.

With that size of L1 cache, I'd suggest a larger block size (32-64KB) - this will reduce index size (and associated memory overhead). The index has to be checked with every disk block read or written, so a large index can have a negative effect on performance. PrimoCache does benefit from increased ...

Re: SD Card transfer rate

I'd agree with Jaga - PrimoCache should work with volumes in card readers (assuming you've set up a cache task for them) but simple file copying doesn't benefit much from caching - and without further details on the external drive (HDD? SSD? USB1/2/3? eSATA?) it's tricky to pinpoint the bottleneck. ...

Re: Stat Confusion

"Cached read" refers to the overall amount (L1+L2) while the L2 storage read is the amount from L2 cache only. So in your case, almost 50% of the data read came from either L1 or L2 and 33% came from L2.

See PrimoCache Manual: Performance Terms for more details.
