Re: PrimoCache flush write cache taking forever?

The problem is serious.

We just experienced a power outage and due to UPS we can at least try a safe shutdown. For some reasons it still takes forever. We need to analyze this.

Cheers

Re: PrimoCache flush write cache taking forever?

Do you have read/write enabled on the l2 cache? Maybe the L1 cache was getting full and instead of spilling over onto L2 cache it was going straight to HD. Yes, I do have read/write enabled on the l2 cache. The particular cache is 96 GByte of RAM and 480 GByte SSD of Intel Optane P900 memory with 6...

Re: PrimoCache flush write cache taking forever?

As I wrote, "flushed n out of m blocks to disk" would be all we need. If n and m is growing, we'll see and understand that.

Re: PrimoCache flush write cache taking forever?

I understand that the cache is potentially being used/filled, while flushing it, right? That explains why a percentage is a bit problematic. However, depending on the decision which blocks you flush, you know the final amout of blocks at some point. Even if that amount is growing over time, you know...

Re: PrimoCache flush write cache taking forever?

Status:

After about 1.5 hours, PrimoCache finished flush to disk. Changing back to 10s for deferred writes and making a reboot. Will be interesting if performance will be up again or not.

Re: [2017-12-21] PrimoCache 3.0.2 released!

I think all it really needs is a journaled write cache and an indication, which os host was running when writing that journal. This way you could finish missing journaled write operations during bootup. Clearly users can always manually create a situation that could sacrifice the write cache. There ...

Re: [2017-12-21] PrimoCache 3.0.2 released!

I do space defrag with o&o defrag on my 64 TB volumes every night. It typically runs only minutes, as the data to be moved is usually in the cache. I do not turn off PrimoCache. I have even write caching enabled on some vokumes. Runs smoothly since years on Windows 2012 R2 server.
