Re: How far in the boot process does primo cache kick in

A large chunk of the Windows startup files will be, but you'll never get 100%. The reason is that Primocache starts up in the kernel layer, at the same time Windows does. Other Windows files load before it, and some load after it. But even then, Primocache needs time to "fire up" at boot. ...

Re: defragmentation

When doing defrags I typically pause the read/write caches, ensuring they'll retain as much content as they can. You can leave it enabled to help speed the defrag a little bit, but usually the cache ends up with data in it you didn't really want, so pausing is typically the best.

Re: Write cache L2

You can leave fast boot enabled, but sooner or later it has a good chance of corrupting the cache which forces it to clear. It is always recommended with Primocache to disable any/all Fast Boot options in Windows/BIOS. Defer write has it's advantages mostly when using the L1, since no drive access a...

Re: How to choice best device for caching. and others...

In the presentation of "primocache" that is on the site we read that it also works with "flash drives". What are they referring to? Can you give an example? Any solid state drive, typically attached via USB, that can be formatted with a Windows compatible volume type. Sometimes ...

Re: Write cache L2

95+ % hit rate is quite good, I'd leave it alone and just let it run if it's doing that well. There are certain files that are always going to be read (at boot time) from the originating drive instead of the cache drive, so really it's just a matter of Primocache grabbing as many boot files as it ca...

Re: Write cache L2

The write cache in Primocache is simply a "deferred write area" that you define. Any writes that land on it also get sent to the drive it is caching. If you end up deleting a file that was in the write cache, it gets deleted off the cached drive as well. Flushing the read/write caches does...

Re: How to choice best device for caching. and others...

Replacing your disk with an SSD is without doubt your best option - it should be a straightforward swap and if you really don't feel up to it, an IT-literate friend or local repair shop should be able to do it (make sure you have all data backed first). I'll agree with this suggestion, given the US...

Re: MS Malware Protection Copy Accelerator Utility

Thanks for taking a peek at the process. I haven't terminated it manually yet (not even sure you can since it's a protected process), and haven't experienced any negative effects on the system or caching while Defender is running. But given MS has it in the W10 OS, it seems fair to assume it'll make...

MS Malware Protection Copy Accelerator Utility

Recently I noticed an item in my list of running tasks. The executable is named "MpCopyAccelerator.exe", and it resides in the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Platform\4.18.2108.7-0" folder. The description on it reads: "Microsoft Malware Protection Copy Accelerat...
