Why not implement the ZFS ARC implementation instead?
No IBM patents to content with.
Here's an excellent article explaining what/how ZFS implements it's awesome caching.

Yes I did restart, pretty obvious you have to since it installs some system drivers.
Can I run FC in some sort of debug mode? to help you guys track down the issue?

I don't think the original poster has solved this problem, as he said in his last post, he just gave up. I too am running into this problem. FC was working fine until recently. Nothing has changed on my system, I suspect the expiry of the 0.7.0 beta I was using might have something to do with it. So...
