Re: Write cache L2

Average mode is usually for scenarios in which there are heavy writes incoming. Could you be more specific about what it does? I would like to set the most reliable option for my system. Thank you! For eg. Assume the latency is 10s, and there are about 1GB incoming write-data suddenly. With average...

Re: Write cache L2

Without defer-write enabled, write-data will be immediately written to the HDD. Write performance will also not be improved. so it does not pass through the L2 cache but it is directly written to the hdd? If you don't specify write cache space for L1/L2 (in the advanced L1/L2 cache settings dialog)...

Re: Defer-Write with L1 and L2

May I suggest an advanced option when Defer-write is enabled using an L2 cache ? The option would be: "persist dirty block map" and when enabled, it would actually flush the dirty block map on the L2 cache (persistent) each time a time interval specified by Latency expires. This way, it a...

right. But for L2, usually there is no need to enable write cache for improving read. This is because L2 is persistent, and caching read-data only can greatly reduce write wear on L2 SSDs.

Re: Defer-Write with L1 and L2

Question 1 : When using Defer-write on an L2 write cache (L1 read only in this case), because the L2 is persistent, does it mean that in case of system crash, no data can be lost ? Or the map that keeps track of the dirty blocks is only in memory and thus data loss will still occur ? The latter. Cu...

Re: How to choice best device for caching. and others...

As InquiringMind and Jaga suggested, replacing your disk with an SSD is your best option. The flash drives you used for level-2 cache are too slow. Only Sandisk Ultra Fit usb device meets the requirement just under the wire. If you still want to use pen drives, you may turn off the defer-write and s...
