Re: page file in RAM only

Well I tried using XP monitor as desrcibed by "Support" and even with a fixed size pagefile on the ramdisk the hard disk page file was still used! The OP could try my setup and have a ramdisk using IM memory and Dynamic Memory. Providing the initial size of the page file is smaller than th...

Re: page file in RAM only

Perhaps the solution is to create a fixed size pagefile on the ramdisk. Then "growth" of other pagefiles will only be required when that's full, which is what the OP wants' anyway! I have now setup my hard disk pagefile to be variable between 25 and 4000 so that it get's created on boot. I...

Re: page file in RAM only

You might try adapting this method:- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/237740 The use of seperate folder for each page file makes it easier to track how big each pagefile is. Setup the ramdisk to create a custom folder called pagefile1. Create another folder on the hard drive called pagefile2. Use reg...

Re: Readyboost and Vsuite a benefit?

Perhaps my thread title was open to interpretation. I wasn't suggesting that Readyboost or Vsuite where of no benefit. I was suggesting using a Vsuite Ramdisk for Readyboost was of little benefit, especially for reducing the boot time compared to readyboost on a USB stick. I've changed the main thre...

Using a Vsuite Ramdisk for Readyboost a benefit?

I've noticed a number of posts about using a ramdisk for Readyboost. The purpose of Readyboost is, as the name implies, to boost readiness. That is how quick software, including the operating sysytem, loads and becomes usable. It dosn't improve performance. It is in fact a small file disk cache. Smal...

Tip to avoid saving image

If you havn't got the more expensive versions it's a pain waiting for the full image to save when shutting down the PC when only a few files have changed. If those changes are just the save files in a game then this can be avoided. If the ramdisk is NTFS then you can set up a junction link between t...

Load order for two Ram disks

I curently dual boot my old windowsXP (32) installation along with a new installation of windows 7( 64). When I upgraded to win7 I also increased the memory to 8 GB, which I wish to exploit in win XP. I have been uisng a single Vsuite Standard Ram disk in IM memory for temp files and the page file. ...
