Re: New Defer-Write Setting

I think the best way of flushing the buffer depends on the machine configuration, the workload, and the user's goals for the software. Because there are so many different combinations of these factors, it is important for the flushing algorithm to be as flexible as possible. I think this is why Rome...

Re: New Defer-Write Setting

Thank you! Yes, I can do that. And in fact I have tried it and it works perfect, but only if the computer has some idle time sometimes. But in the case when the computer is always busy and never idle for long time, then Buffer Mode and Intelligent Mode never flushes the percentage of deferred data t...

New Defer-Write Setting

I would like to request a new behavior for the Write Mode of 'Buffer' and 'Intelligent', so that they could be switchable to work whether or not the computer is idle. The switch would allow Buffer Mode or Intelligent Mode to either work like they do now, or work according to the requested new behavi...

Re: Primocache Prefetching from HDD and not SSD?

Upvote +1 on previous post. Especially the file size limit for L1 fill, whether prefetch or not, for the reasons given by QuantumX. Namely, because by far the slowest disk accesses are the small (4kb) transfer sizes with low queue depths and number of threads. I think that just by limiting L1 fill s...

Re: Questions about block size

I guess my only other question along this topic is: If using a larger block size, what effect might that have on cached writes (especially smaller writes) to the underlying HDD? (I think mentioned earlier that I am using a 180GB NVME SSD to cache a 1TB 7200rpm HDD. This cache task also caches this d...

Re: [2020-12-31] PrimoCache 4.0.1 released!

Thank you, Jaga. I'll try experimenting with a larger block size. All of my drives have 4KB clusters, so I've been using 4k cache blocks mainly because of these and similar statements in the PrimoCache Manual and FAQ: From the FAQ: " To get the best performance, a block size equal to or less th...
