Re: Is the memory type of an SSD important for PrimoCache?

2) If you can afford a separate NVMe for the L2, it would be quite a bit better due to the drive characteristics. It would of course still need to be as large as you'd planned to cover the data you wanted to cache. 3) The Total Host Writes number in Crystal Disk Info is in the upper-right area, not...

Re: Is the memory type of an SSD important for PrimoCache?

1) If I make an SSD partition as "L2 cache", I envisage a partition of at least 300 GB to cover almost 3 TB of HDD: good plan? 2) If I take a SATA SSD, on average, it is 560 MB / s in reading and 530 MB / s in writing: more than enough? Or should you consider opting for an NVMe? 3) Where ...

Re: Is the memory type of an SSD important for PrimoCache?

For PrimoCache, it doesn't need to know the SSD physical details. Actually, almost every storage devices can be used as "L2 cache". However, when you choose a SSD or a SSD partition as "L2 cache", you may pay attention to the following 3 things. 1) Capacity: that is L2 cache siz...

Is the memory type of an SSD important for PrimoCache?

Good evening everyone ! I would like to know if the memory type of an SSD (MLC, TLC, QLC etc ...) is an important parameter regarding the use of an SSD as "L2 cache"? Currently, I use a 120 GB MLC SSD as "L2 cache". But if one day I decide to replace this SSD which is in MLC by, ...

Re: SSD 4 TB or HDD 8 TB with PrimoCache ?

Hello Jaga and support ! Thank you for all your information, it helps me a lot ^^ If I have to make a conclusion of all this, it seems to me more judicious to go on the 1st option and to opt for a SSD with a big capacity of storage: my most important games will be on this SSD and the partition which...

Re: SSD 4 TB or HDD 8 TB with PrimoCache ?

Hello ! Thank you for your answers Jaga and support Jaga, I agree with you about Samsung. Overall they are the best and their SSD are extremely famous. But as my future SSD (if I choose the first option obviously) will serve as SSD gaming + PrimoCache, I'm afraid that with the model that is a QLC, I...

Re: SSD 4 TB or HDD 8 TB with PrimoCache ?

1) A 120GB cache running against a 8TB HDD wouldn't work very well, no. 2) I always buy Samsung drives, they're just that much better than everything else. I would never buy a Toshiba drive, or a SanDisk for that matter. I care about my data, and the stability of my systems. 3) A larger L2 cache is...

SSD 4 TB or HDD 8 TB with PrimoCache ?

Hello everyone ! Soon, I will have to buy a new hard drive because my current hard drives are almost full ... And to be quiet for a long time, I think buy a hard drive that will have a large or very large storage capacity. For my gaming use, I have this setup: a 120 GB SSD that serves SSD cache than...

Re: How to optimize my settings for best performances ?

Those settings sound good for your configuration. As for the L1 cache size you want it as big as you can get without hitting the pagefile.sys, so try it for a couple of days with 2Gb and if you can see there's no pagefile.sys activity maybe raise it to 3-4Gb. I have 16Gb ram and use a 2Gb L1 cache,...

Re: How to optimize my settings for best performances ?

I would use Average mode for defer writes, writes data at a slower rate so as to not interfer with reads so much and if the write buffer does overflow it's a little faster to use your pc with average. Intelligent or idle flush waits before your comp is idle before flushing data so it can build up s...
