Re: [2023-08-07] PrimoCache 4.3.0 for all Windows released!

Is this the same file as from 2023-04-07? The version number has not changed. I would just like to know if there were any changes that justify a new installation, currently the 2023-04-07 runs without problems on my system.

Re: [2023-04-07] PrimoCache 4.3.0 for Win10/11 released!

I thought the new version was DirectStorage capable? My system shows me that DirectStorage does not work because of PrimoCache. As soon as I remove the drive in PrimoCache, DirectStorage also works. Edit: Okay, it doesn't work if you have Defer-Write enabled. A hint in the program itself would be ve...

only 8KB for HDDs

Not sure if it's a bug or I'm just dumb, but I can only get my HDDs in 8KB block size and not in 4KB. My SSDs and my NVMe can do 4KB with no problem. Has this always been the case with HDDs? All the cluster sizes are displayed to me as 4KB in PrimoCache and all disks are formatted the same.

UEFI/BIOS settings question

Here are settings in my UEFI/BIOS for DRAM/RAM and I always wanted to ask if the have any impact on PrimoCache. I know what a few settings do or better should do, but some of them are unknown for me because I never found any good information about it. Maybe DRAM SPD Write can impact PrimoCache? It g...

Re: About Mechanisms of Different Modes for Deferred Write

Thank you for the explanation, that's something I never understand 100%, especially as non native English speaker.

What is the default Windows latency for data writing? Zero? And what is the best mode to use at the end with a normal PC (does it make a different for SSD and HDD, Gaming)?

Re: HDD Power management.

With SmartHDD it is possible to change the APM of HDDs and I prefer to have every HDD to "more wasteful" with full 254. Usually it is only need to set it one time, SmartHDD runs at boot, and the setting stays. A few weeks ago I notice that there was not anymore the case, strangely two of t...

Re: HDD Power management.

I can confirm now, for my PC system, it is a "issue" with enabled defer-write.

Enabled defer-write = reset APM setting
Disabled defer-write = APM setting stay after reboot and power off

Re: HDD Power management.

Thank you for the information about the setting. Yes, I have all HDDs set with enabled defer-write currently on a latency of 5 sec and mode intelligent, not sure about the defer-write, but the latency also was on 10 sec and native too without any change of the APM issue. I will test it without the d...

Re: HDD Power management.

I'm using https://smarthdd.com/ to change the APM, since a time two of my HDDs doesn't save the setting anymore, but can't tell what I change because I don't notice it immediately. I wrote a few times with the developer of the tool, but we can't find a solution for the issue, it seems anything block...
