Feature proposal: HDD sleep resume
Hello, One of the great advantages of primocache is to cache writes to HDD. However, most mechanical hard disks enter into sleep mode when not used actively, and the spin-up time can be up to 4 seconds. Currently primocache starts caching the writes, but the HDD wakes only when the buffer is about t...

Re: Spectre/Meltdown impact
Yes, the results you got are similar (or even slightly better) than what we have observed. Spectre/Meltdown impacts
latency and that's why fast transactions become significantly slower (e.g. high speed storage, such as primocache or
optane; and fast network io)

targeting 10 MIOPS performance
Could you consider if some of the elements of LLFIO can be implemented into the PrimoCache?
More about LLFIO: https://ned14.github.io/llfio/
thanks!

Re: PrimoCache & Nvme in 2018, enough to compete with optane 905P?
well.. there are couple of items which make Optane a lot faster than typical SSD: First - the consistency of low latency: Regardless of my load type, optane 900p will always have less than .01 ms latency (and I run some heavy transaction loads). Secondly - optane will not use nor require TRIM - so e...

Re: PrimoCache & Nvme in 2018, enough to compete with optane 905P?
I have tested primocache extensively with samsung nvme drives and optane 900p. Primocache further increases low queue depth transfer speeds to 600-700Mb/s (from optane's 200-300 Mb/s) but the real-world performance does not increase (at least with my workloads). the issue seems to be with a) windows...

ok, thank you for the information! It would be nice to see some comparison results with full spectre&meltdown patches applied. Those seem to take huge toll on 4k IO

Re: PrimoCache and File Based Synchronization
Has anyone been able to confirm the issue you are running into, jussssx1? Can you elaborate on the exact behavior and how we may be able to reproduce it? Axel Hello Axel; After applying KB4090914 we have not seen the issue anymore. It might have been related to file flush kernel issue; see https://...

wow!! nice speeds & high quality article! Just one question: did you have meltdown & spectre patches applied?

Re: PrimoCache and File Based Synchronization
what type of machines do you have; are they multi-socket machines? We experienced some hickups with multi-socket systems because rapid file IO's sometimes failed (file based oltp apps). We did not experience the issue without primocache, but the issue may be related to windows kernel bug that Bruce ...

Re: PrimoCache Server in combination with a Intel 900P Optane card
Hello.. i have tested 900p extensively with dual xeon configuration (and primocache 3.0.2). Primocache significantly speeds certain DB operations even with optane (4k-64kb transfers with higher queue depth). There are couple of issues though: A) it seems that there is a windows glitch that (only hap...
