pendrive as L2 cache

Post by koksys »

Hello
Is it a good idea to have usb 2.0 pendrive as a L2 cache? HD is 5400 sata2, laptop? Or that case only L1 RAM?

Not advisable to use it. The minimum should be usb3.

USB thumb/pen drives are just too slow to help as L2 caches. Even a SSD connected via USB3 (as minhgi suggests) is the absolute minimum, and may not get much more speed. An internal SSD is really the best option. There are some smaller and less expensive ones you can buy, just to use as L2.

Ok. Thnx. I've tried and system booted faster with L2 pendrive. If i had ssd i wouldn't think about software like PCache.
