Re: Win 10 Compact feature: Better Compatible? compression!

Windows 10 Compact comes with 4 new algorithms: XPRESS4K: Fastest - least compression XPRESS8K: Medium speed - more compression XPRESS16K: Slowest - most compression. LZX: Even slower and best used to save space on infrequently used files. Heh - this brought up a Drivespace-related flashback (the c...

Re: GpuRamDrive: GPU VRAM as RAMdisk: Game changer!?

...My RAM is full and busy elsewhere, while my GPU and it's RAM sit idle, doing F-all..! Get it??? Not only that, I have a spare GPU, gathering dust, that could be used... Then accept that you have over-specified/over-spent on your GPU, sell it and replace it with one that only has the VRAM you nee...

Re: Best Setup for new high end PC.

There's no point in using L2 caching unless you want to speed up your HDD - and really it would be better to reserve it for data where access speed is less important (e.g. system backups, downloaded installers, media files) and move your documents/program data onto one of your SSDs (having this on H...

Re: Caching a very fast SSD

The Sabrent Rocket 4+ reads at 7000MB/s and I don’t want to risk my data for deferred write. I wonder has anybody with PCIe Gen 4 drives used PrimoCache and does RAMcaching a SSD this fast helps or damages its performance and life span in anyway? Welcome to the forums Mingyuan, RAM caching should b...

Re: Questions on L2 Cache & "Prefetch Last Cache" Settings

Sorry about the mistake on the (not) USB stick, but 16GB is really small for an SSD - I had to rub my eyes when I checked the specifications. Setting it up as a recovery partition would seem a good idea. I overlooked one part of your question - the prefetch data (list of blocks to load) is stored in...

Re: Questions on L2 Cache & "Prefetch Last Cache" Settings

Welcome to the forums, Bushwacker611 "Prefetch Last Cache" applies to L1 only (since L2 cache is non-volatile). It does not save actual data, but the list of disk blocks previously cached - which are then copied onto L1 cache when you restart your system. It looks like you are using a USB ...

Re: L2 cache behavior during RMW operations?

...Something comes along and modifies the contents of ABC.exe, then stores the changes to disk. Assuming no interaction, the cached copy is now out-of-sync with the master... Even in "read only" mode, writes still go through the PrimoCache driver so it can detect (and update) its L2 cache...

Re: PrimoCache Settings

If you really want to speed up your HDDs, then you'll need to consider L2 caching (and sacrificing some of your NVMe space for that). However, 1TB of NVMe should be enough to accommodate programs and documents for most people, leaving your HDDs for data where speed is not important, e.g. image backu...

Re: Replacing the DDR4 sticks while PrimoCache is still active

Welcome to the forums Kevin,

Pulling out any motherboard component (memory, CPU) while your system is running is very likely to damage it. If you cannot switch off your system (for whatever reason), then you shouldn't make any hardware changes.

Re: Advice please

There will be some registry keys left behind to ensure that people can't just uninstall/reinstall to get another trial period (and these use illegal characters to prevent their removal using RegEdit or similar tools). These should have no effect on performance though. It's likely that you are more a...
