PrimoCache performance and many one time writes

My system disk is monitored by PrimoCache. On that disk is a certain folder that has very high number of one time writes. And a lesser number of one time reads. Is it beneficial to move that folder to a disk that's not monitored by PrimoCache? I ask because I see two possible dangers: 1] No matter h...

Re: Block size vs sector size

Getting clearer now. Yeah, it's possibly beyond the scope of this forum. But OTOH, PrimoCache is all about getting more performance and the end result is best if both the disk and PrimoCache are configured in the best possible way. I understand that for copying a 1GB file a larger sector size is ben...

Re: How much L2 cache? Backups?

So the backups also serve as something raid-0 like? If so things are getting really interesting because right now my backups only take time and space. But if my backups also give me a speed boost then .... well... wow! Combine that with PrimoCache and things get really fast. The only thing that's le...

Re: How much L2 cache? Backups?

I only did some brief tests with 3 pooled USB disks; when doing bulk copies from/to my SSD it gives great speeds. A little RAID 0 like :-)

Re: Block size vs sector size

Do you have two L2 disks with matching sector sizes for your system and data disk? Why not set all disks to same sector size? Say 32k What are the disadvantages and advantages? Advantages: It makes things easier for PrimoCache. Less overhead. Less blocks to manage like also means less CPU usage. Dis...

Block size vs sector size

Is there any relation between the block size in PrimoCache and sector size on my HDD/SSD?

Re: How much L2 cache? Backups?

I understand your script now. I have to check my backup program behaves as Macrium does.

BTW I'm now investigating DrivePool and the other Stablebit programs. Really intesting stuff. I can even use it as part of my backup strategy.

Re: L1 + L2 tasks and RAM allocation

The other solution might be setting up a small stripe for L2. That way SSD performance stays good and PrimoCache can handle the L1 the way it thinks is best. The 2GB L1 was just an example. I own PrimoCache for years but yesterday I reinstalled it and right now I'm playing with 2GB. Which most certa...

Re: How much L2 cache? Backups?

Yes, I fully understand there is no option to force certain files (blocks) to be in cache. I'll try to be more clear what I tried to say. I install PrimoCache. From that point on it starts learning and figures out file XYZ is extremly often accessed. So that file gets a very high access count. Doesn...

L1 + L2 tasks and RAM allocation

I need some advise on setting up my caching strategy. Current setup: Fast SSD + slow HDD. I have a total of 2GB RAM to allocate for L1. Currently I use both drives in one caching task. My reasoning is that this way PrimoCache can use the 2GB in the best possible way. I could setup 2 tasks and alloca...
