Re: New build. RAID5 on RST ok?

RAID 6 for capacity or RAID 10 for performance.

RAID 6 will eventually become "obsolete" too, but that's a bigger concern for enterprise right now than it is for home use.

Re: Event 129 secnvme

If that's 95 F it's no big deal, and not the source of the problems. Mine right now is idling at 112F / 45C. They are rated between 0-70C (32-158F). 95°C :( Note that this is the throttling sensor. Sensor 1 = Health, Sensor 2 = Throttling With no active airflow, Sensor 2 idles at 60°C and hits 95°C...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

Still waiting on the replacement drive, but I've been doing some additional testing and monitoring and I am leaning towards the source of the problem being HEAT :o The 970 EVO under full, sustained load is hitting a peak temperature of a whopping 95°!! I can get that drastically reduced (peak of 65°...

Re: New build. RAID5 on RST ok?

I think it's important to be clear that the hitrate on a 120gb L2CACHE in front of 5+TB of data entirely depends on your usage pattern. If you're usually watching the same few TV shows/movies/photos/etc, and only dipping into the majority of your data for the occasional trip down memory lane, you'll...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

It sounds like the problems you're seeing may be related to the special drive access that Primocache uses on the L2STORAGE volume This is my best guess as well, considering I don't seem to have problems just using the drive on its own as storage. It's definitely not a device defect, since Primocach...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

My current theory is that this is a device defect , either a flaw in the design of the 970 EVO, poor motherboard design, or a common manufacturing defect of the 970 EVO. I was able to reproduce this issue (only once) using the Samsung Magician benchmarking utility. If Link Power Management is enabl...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

Some more information from testing: I removed some applications that were regularly querying the device (e.g. hardware monitor software) to make sure that wasn't interfering I tried setting the M.2 PCIE lanes to X2 (instead of X4) Neither of these helped :( However it is important to note that when...

Re: Event 129 secnvme

Resurrecting this thread because I am now seeing this issue when playing some games on a drive with L2 cache enabled. It seems consistent with zeroibis' experience: - Only occurs during high throughput operations (e.g. when a game goes to read content) - Occurs on Samsung 970 EVO (NVME) - No other a...
